Ingredients:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1/2 teaspoon chilli powder (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/2 cup water (adjust as needed)
- Vegetable oil (for deep frying)
- Assorted vegetables, meat, or cheese (e.g., onions, potatoes, cauliflower, spinach, paneer, etc.)
Instructions:
1. In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, turmeric powder, chili powder, cumin powder, and salt. Mix well to ensure all the dry ingredients are evenly incorporated.
2. Slowly add water to the dry ingredients while whisking continuously. The batter should have a thick, smooth consistency. Adjust the water quantity as needed to achieve the desired consistency.
3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or pot over medium heat. The oil should be approximately 2 inches deep for proper frying.
4. prepare the vegetables, meat, or cheese for fritters. Cut them into bite-sized pieces or thin slices, depending on your preference.
5. Dip the prepared vegetables, meat, or cheese into the fritter batter, ensuring they are evenly coated.
6. Carefully place the coated pieces into the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them in small batches for even cooking.
7. Fry the fritters until they turn golden brown and crispy. Flip them occasionally to ensure they are cooked evenly on all sides. The cooking time will vary depending on the ingredients used.
8. Once cooked, use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the fritters from the oil, allowing any excess oil to drain.
9. Place the fritters on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any remaining oil.
10. Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients until all the fritters are fried.
11. Serve the hot and crispy fritters as a snack or appetizer. They can be enjoyed independently or paired with chutney, ketchup, or a yoghurt-based dip.
